  5. Timeline — Post and engagement activity over time
  6. Trend Analysis — AI-generated forecast of narrative growth potential (Experimental)
  7. Cohort Distribution — Breakdown of audience cohorts participating in the narrative
  8. Content Tabs — Top Posts, Authors, Media, and URLs
  9. Related Narratives — Semantically similar narratives identified by the pipeline

Risk Level & Header

The top of the Narrative Detail Panel displays the narrative's overall risk assessment and core identity information.

Risk Level Indicator

The Risk Level badge appears at the top of the panel and reflects the narrative's overall assessed risk. Risk levels are color-coded for rapid identification:

Risk LevelColor
High RiskRed
Medium RiskOrange/Yellow
Low RiskGray/Neutral

Narrative Title

The AI-generated title summarizing the narrative's central claim is displayed prominently below the risk indicator.

Narrative ID

Each narrative is assigned a unique, project-specific Narrative ID displayed alongside the title (e.g., ID:2987). The Narrative ID can be used to:

  • Search for the narrative directly using the Segment Bar
  • Reference the narrative when creating or combining segments
  • Share the narrative with other users by communicating the ID

Pro Tip: Use the Narrative ID in the Segment Bar with the narrative.id field to quickly surface a specific narrative by its identifier, regardless of current filter or sort state.

Key Metrics Bar

Immediately below the title, a summary metrics bar displays:

MetricDescription
PostsTotal number of posts associated with this narrative
EngagementsAggregate engagement (reactions, shares, replies) across all posts
AuthorsTotal number of unique authors contributing to the narrative
PlatformsSource platforms represented in the narrative (e.g., X.com, Reddit, Facebook)
CohortsTop audience cohorts; click +N more to view the full cohort breakdown

Signal Bar

The Signal Bar provides five visual indicators that characterize the narrative at a glance. Each signal is represented as a labeled bar with a color-coded intensity scale.

SignalDescription
VolumeRelative volume of posts associated with this narrative
Bot ScoreConcentration of bot-like activity among posts in the narrative
AnomalousDegree of anomalous or unusual behavior detected within the narrative
ReachEstimated audience reach based on author follower data
Growth TrendRate of narrative growth over the observation period

Summary

The Summary section presents an AI-generated narrative summary that describes the central claim or message being promoted. The summary is written in plain language and is designed to provide a rapid understanding of the narrative without requiring analysts to review individual posts.

Compass Context

The Compass Context section provides Blackbird AI's analytical perspective on the narrative, including a risk caution label (e.g., Caution). Compass Context situates the narrative within a broader geopolitical, social, or influence operation framework and may reference relevant factual context or counterpoints.

Note: The Compass Context rating reflects Blackbird AI's analytical assessment and should be considered alongside other signals when determining escalation or response.

Timeline

The Timeline displays post and engagement activity for the narrative over time, allowing analysts to identify spikes, periods of acceleration, and patterns of spread.

Timeline Controls

ControlOptionsDescription
ViewTotal, PlatformsToggle between aggregate totals or a platform-by-platform breakdown
Chart TypeLine, StreamSwitch between a line chart and a stream (area) chart visualization
MetricPosts, EngagementsToggle the Y-axis between post count and engagement count

Hovering over any point on the chart displays a tooltip showing the exact date and metric value.

Trend Analysis (Experimental)

Note: Trend Analysis is an experimental feature. Results should be treated as indicative and interpreted alongside other signals rather than relied upon as a definitive forecast.

The Trend Analysis section provides an AI-generated assessment of whether the narrative is likely to trend in the near term. A narrative is considered likely to trend when the model projects a significant acceleration in post volume. The assessment is accompanied by a written explanation citing the contributing signals, such as post count, engagement volume, platform reach, and toxicity levels.

A Likely To Trend badge is displayed when the model determines a high probability of near-term growth.

Cohort Distribution

The Cohort Distribution chart displays the breakdown of audience cohorts participating in the narrative, ranked by author count. The chart shows the top 15 cohorts by default. Clicking View all opens a modal showing the complete cohort list.

Each cohort bar displays the cohort name and the number of authors assigned to that cohort. This view helps analysts quickly understand the ideological, geographic, or interest-based composition of the narrative's audience.

Pro Tip: A narrative dominated by a single cohort — particularly a state-affiliated or politically extreme cohort — may indicate coordinated amplification. Use the cohort distribution to contextualize the organic versus inorganic nature of the conversation.

Content Tabs

The Content Tabs section presents the top content associated with the narrative, organized across four tabs.

Posts

The Posts tab displays the top posts within the narrative, ranked by engagement. Each post card shows the author handle, post content, platform, engagement count, bot score indicator, and assigned cohorts.

Authors

The Authors tab displays the top authors contributing to the narrative, ranked by engagement on their posts. Each author card shows the author handle, platform, post count, and assigned cohorts. Clicking View all authors navigates to the full author list for the narrative.

Media

The Media tab displays the top media assets (images, videos, and other media) associated with the narrative, ranked by engagement.

URLs

The URLs tab displays the top URLs shared within narrative posts, ranked by engagement on related posts. Each entry shows the URL and its associated engagement metrics. Links can be opened in a new browser tab for review.

The Related Narratives section displays other narratives in the project that have been identified by the pipeline as semantically similar to the current narrative. Each related narrative is displayed as a card showing its title, post count, engagement, author count, and Narrative ID.

Clicking any related narrative card navigates directly to that narrative's details view, enabling analysts to quickly move between connected storylines.

Pro Tip: Related Narratives are useful for understanding the broader narrative ecosystem surrounding a topic. A cluster of related narratives with overlapping cohorts and escalating metrics may indicate a coordinated campaign.

Tips & Best Practices

For Risk Assessment

  • Read the Signal Bar first — The five signals provide an immediate multi-dimensional risk profile before reading any text. Elevated Bot Score combined with high Volume and Growth Trend is a strong indicator of coordinated inauthentic behavior.
  • Cross-reference Compass Context — The Compass Context rating provides analytical grounding. A Caution label indicates that the narrative touches on a sensitive or contested topic and warrants closer review.

For Audience Analysis

  • Review the Cohort Distribution before the Posts tab — Understanding who is amplifying a narrative provides critical context for interpreting the content itself.
  • Use the Authors tab to identify key amplifiers — High-engagement authors with state-affiliated or extremist cohort labels merit individual investigation.

For Sharing and Referencing

  • Use the Narrative ID for precise referencing — When communicating about a specific narrative with colleagues, use the Narrative ID (e.g., ID:2987) to ensure there is no ambiguity. The ID can also be used directly in the Segment Bar with the narrative.id field.

For Trend Monitoring

  • Treat Trend Analysis as a supporting signal — The Trend Analysis feature is experimental. Use it as an early warning indicator alongside Volume, Growth Trend, and engagement velocity rather than as a standalone conclusion.

Troubleshooting

"The Narrative Detail Panel is empty"

  • Confirm that a narrative has been selected in the Narrative List Panel. If no narrative is selected, the detail panel will not populate.
  • If a narrative was previously selected and the panel has cleared, try re-selecting the narrative from the list.

"I cannot find a narrative by its ID"

  • Use the narrative.id field in the Segment Bar to search by Narrative ID. Type narrative in the field input to surface the full list of available narrative-specific fields via the typeahead assistant.
  • Alternatively, use the Narratives filter dropdown in the Segment Bar to locate a narrative by title or ID.
