The Narrative List page in Constellation displays AI-discovered narratives present within a project's data set, enabling analysts to quickly triage, filter, and prioritize narrative threats. Narratives are automatically identified by the Narrative Discovery Agent, which continuously scans project data and surfaces emerging storylines for review. In the best case scenario, a single AI narrative may represent a complete, reportable finding that can be shared with stakeholders directly.
What You Can Do
- Browse all narratives detected in your project in a familiar inbox-style layout with infinite scroll
- Sort narratives by risk rating, bot percentage, Compass Risk, total posts, total engagement, or total authors
- Filter narratives using the Segment Bar with narrative-specific field syntax
- Search narratives by title and summary using the quick search bar
- Prioritize high-risk narratives using the default risk-descending sort order
- Triage narratives efficiently by combining search, filters, and sorting
- Log in to Constellation.
- Select the desired Project from the project selector in the top navigation bar.
- Click Analyze in the top navigation menu.
- Select Narratives from the left sidebar.
The Narrative List page is organized into three primary areas:
- Segment Bar — Located at the top of the page; used to apply advanced filters using boolean field syntax.
- Narrative List Panel — The left-hand panel displaying the list of discovered narratives with summary metadata.
- Narrative Detail Panel — The right-hand panel displaying detailed information for the selected narrative.
The Narrative Discovery Agent automatically identifies and groups narratives from the posts in your project data set. Narratives are presented in an inbox-style format, allowing analysts to scan and triage them efficiently without manual grouping or tagging.
Note: A narrative will appear in the list if any posts within that narrative match the active search or segment criteria — not only narratives where all posts match.
The Narrative List Panel displays each discovered narrative as a card with key metadata. Narratives are ordered according to the active sort setting. The list uses infinite scroll — as you scroll down, additional narratives are loaded automatically.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Narrative Title | The AI-generated title summarizing the narrative's central claim or theme |
| Post Count | Total number of posts associated with this narrative |
| Engagement | Total engagement (reactions, shares, replies) across all narrative posts |
| Author Count | Number of unique authors contributing to the narrative |
| Narrative ID | Unique system identifier for the narrative |
| Risk Indicator | Color-coded risk badge reflecting the narrative's overall risk rating |
The Narrative List can be sorted using the sort control located at the top-right of the Narrative List Panel. Click the sort icon to open the Sort by menu. All sort options support both ascending and descending order.
| Sort Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Risk Rating | Orders narratives by their overall risk assessment (default: descending) |
| Bot Percentage | Orders narratives by the percentage of posts meeting the bot-like threshold (narrative.botPostPercentage) |
| Compass Risk | Orders narratives by the Compass Risk rating — Low, Medium, or High (narrative.compassScore) |
| Total Posts | Orders narratives by the total number of associated posts |
| Total Engagement | Orders narratives by the aggregate engagement across all posts |
| Total Authors | Orders narratives by the number of unique authors participating in the narrative |
Pro Tip: The default sort is Risk Rating descending, which surfaces the narratives most likely to pose the greatest risk at the top of the list. It is recommended to begin triage from this default view before applying additional filters.
The Search bar at the top of the Narrative List Panel provides fast, keyword-based filtering. The search operates against the narrative title and narrative summary fields. It does not search the full text of individual posts.
The Segment Bar at the top of the page supports advanced boolean filtering and includes narrative-specific field syntax.
To view all available narrative fields:
- Click into the Segment Bar boolean field input.
- Type
narrative. - The typeahead assistant will display a list of all narrative-specific fields available for filtering.
Pro Tip: Narrative-specific fields allow you to filter directly on narrative-level attributes (such as risk rating thresholds or bot score ranges), enabling more precise triage than post-level filters alone.
For projects containing a large number of narratives, it is recommended to use a combination of the Segment Bar filters and sort controls together to identify emergent and evolving narratives efficiently.
Note: Segment filters and the quick search bar can be used simultaneously. The narrative list will reflect all active constraints at once.
- Start with the default sort — The risk-descending default ensures the highest-priority narratives are visible immediately upon navigating to the page.
- Use the quick search bar for known topics — If you are monitoring a specific subject, enter relevant keywords to narrow the list to narratives whose titles or summaries mention that topic.
- Layer filters and sorting — Projects may contain thousands of narratives. Applying a Segment Bar filter first to narrow the scope, then sorting within the filtered results, is the most effective approach for large data sets.
- Explore narrative-specific fields — Type
narrativein the Segment Bar to discover fields that are not available for standard post-level queries, giving you finer control over which narratives are surfaced.
- Sort by Bot Percentage — When investigating coordinated inauthentic behavior, sorting by Bot Percentage descending highlights narratives with the highest concentration of automated activity.
- Sort by Compass Risk — Use the Compass Risk sort to prioritize narratives flagged by Blackbird AI's analytical framework for geopolitical or influence operation risk.
- Verify that a Project has been selected and that it contains ingested posts.
- Check whether an active Segment Bar filter is too restrictive; clear or modify the filter and re-apply.
- Confirm that the Narrative Discovery Agent has completed its initial analysis of the project data set.
- The quick search bar only queries narrative title and narrative summary fields. If you are searching for post-level content, use the Segment Bar or navigate to the Posts page instead.
- Ensure there are no typographical errors in the search query.
- Recall that a narrative appears if any of its posts match the active criteria. If the segment filter excludes all posts associated with a narrative, that narrative will not be displayed.
- Broaden the active Segment Bar filter or clear it entirely to confirm the narrative exists in the project.
