# Project Overview

## Overview

The **Project Overview** page in Constellation 3.0 is a fully customizable dashboard that provides a high-level summary of activity, narratives, and signals across a project. It is designed to surface the most relevant data for your analysis at a glance, with a layout you control.

**What You Can Do:**

* **Add and remove widgets** to tailor the dashboard to your current analysis needs
* **Reposition and resize widgets** by dragging and resizing them within the grid
* **Save named layouts** to preserve configurations for specific use cases or recurring workflows
* **Load saved layouts** on any project, not just the one where the layout was created
* **Filter the entire dashboard** using the **Segment Bar** to scope all widget data simultaneously
* **Open narrative detail views** inline without leaving the overview


> **Note:** Layouts are user-specific. Each user maintains their own saved layouts and active configuration independently of other users on the same project.


## Navigating to Project Overview

1. Open **Constellation 3.0**.
2. Select a **Project** from the project list or navigation sidebar.
3. Click **Project Overview** in the project navigation menu.


## Page Layout

The **Project Overview** page is organized into three main areas:

1. **Segment Bar** — Persistent filter controls at the top of the page that apply across all widgets.
2. **Overview Header** — Contains the page title, the **Add Widget** button, and the **Layouts** button.
3. **Overview Grid** — The main content area where widgets are displayed, arranged, and resized.


## Segment Bar

The **Segment Bar** appears at the top of the page and remains visible as you scroll. Filters applied here scope all widget data simultaneously, allowing you to analyze a consistent slice of data across the entire dashboard.

**Pro Tip:** Use the **Segment Bar** to focus all widgets on a specific time range, keyword, or source before saving a layout. This lets you create purpose-built views for recurring analysis workflows.

## Overview Header

The **Overview Header** provides the primary controls for managing your dashboard configuration.

### Add Widget

Click the **Add Widget** button to open a dropdown listing all available widgets. Each widget in the list displays a checkbox indicating whether it is currently present on the dashboard.

* **Check** a widget to add it to the grid.
* **Uncheck** a widget to remove it from the grid.


> **Note:** The dropdown remains open after toggling a widget, allowing you to add or remove multiple widgets in a single interaction.


### Layouts Button

Click the **Layouts** button to access layout management options, including saving the current layout and loading previously saved layouts.

## Overview Grid

The **Overview Grid** is the central workspace of the Project Overview page. It uses a responsive, column-based grid system that adapts to your screen size.

### Arranging Widgets

### Widget Cards

Each widget is displayed inside a **Card** component that includes:

## Widget Library

The following widgets are available in the **Project Overview** widget library. Each widget displays a distinct category of project data.

> **Note:** Custom, user-defined widgets are planned for a future release of Constellation 3.0. The current library consists of platform-defined widgets.


### Top Narratives

Displays the top narratives detected within the project, ranked by activity or relevance. Use this widget to monitor which narratives are gaining traction and to quickly surface the most significant storylines in your data.

**Pro Tip:** Click on a narrative within this widget to open a detailed narrative view inline as a dialog, without navigating away from the overview.

### Timeline Activity

Displays a time-series chart showing the volume of posts or signals across the project's monitored timeframe. Use this widget to identify spikes, trends, and periods of elevated activity that may warrant further investigation.

### Platform Distribution

Displays a breakdown of the platforms and sources generating the most content within the project. Use this widget to identify which platforms or domains are driving the most activity and to understand where relevant conversations are occurring.

### Top Authors by Engagement

Displays the authors or accounts generating the most engagement within the project scope. Use this widget to identify prolific or influential voices in the data and to track which accounts are amplifying key narratives.

### Categories

Displays the thematic categories present across the project's narratives. Each AI-generated narrative is analyzed for content and automatically assigned to one or more categories based on its topic and subject matter, allowing you to see at a glance which broad themes are most prominent within the project.

**Pro Tip:** Use the **Categories** widget alongside the **Top Narratives** widget to move fluidly between high-level thematic trends and the specific narratives driving them.

## Saving and Managing Layouts

### Saving a Layout

1. Configure the grid to the desired widget arrangement.
2. Click the **Layouts** button in the **Overview Header**.
3. Select **Save Layout**.
4. Enter a descriptive name for the layout in the dialog that appears.
5. Click **Save Layout** to confirm.


The layout is saved under your user account and is immediately available for use.

### Loading a Saved Layout

1. Click the **Layouts** button in the **Overview Header**.
2. Select the desired layout from the list of saved layouts.
3. The grid updates to reflect the selected layout's widget configuration and arrangement.


**Pro Tip:** Because saved layouts are not project-specific, you can create layouts tailored to a particular type of analysis — such as source monitoring or narrative tracking — and apply them consistently across multiple projects.

### Resetting to Default

To return to the default widget configuration, select the **Reset Layout** option from the **Layouts** menu.

## Tips & Best Practices

### For Efficient Analysis

* **Apply filters before examining widgets** — Configure the **Segment Bar** first so all widgets reflect the same data scope before you interpret results.
* **Use named layouts for recurring workflows** — Save a layout for each type of analysis you perform regularly (e.g., "Daily Monitoring", "Narrative Deep Dive") to avoid reconfiguring the dashboard each session.
* **Load layouts across projects** — Saved layouts are not tied to a single project. Apply the same analysis configuration to any project in your portfolio.


### For Dashboard Organization

* **Remove widgets you are not actively using** — A focused dashboard with fewer widgets is easier to scan and interpret than a cluttered one.
* **Resize widgets based on importance** — Allocate more grid space to the widgets most central to your current analysis.
* **Group related widgets spatially** — Position widgets that inform each other in proximity within the grid to reduce visual context switching.


## Troubleshooting

### "A widget is showing an error state"

* The underlying data query may have failed. Use the **Retry** control on the widget card to attempt to reload the data.
* Verify that your **Segment Bar** configuration is not producing an invalid or empty query.
* If the error persists, the data source for that widget may be temporarily unavailable. Contact your administrator.


### "My saved layout is not appearing"

* Layouts are user-specific. Confirm you are logged in with the account that saved the layout.
* If you recently saved the layout, refresh the page and check the **Layouts** menu again.


### "Widgets are not reflecting my filter changes"

* Confirm the **Segment Bar** filters have been applied (not just configured). Verify the active filter state is reflected in the **Segment Bar** display.
* Some widget types may have a brief loading delay after filters are changed. Allow the widgets to finish loading before concluding data has not updated.


### "I cannot move or resize a widget"

* Ensure you are dragging from the designated **drag handle** on the widget card, not from the widget content area.
* Resizing requires using the resize handle at the edge or corner of the widget card.
